In the name of protecting citizens' privacy, the Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi is pushing a bill that would severely restrict police use of wiretaps. This bill would also impose harsh jail terms on journalists who report the contents of bugged conversations.
As the opposition continued to present draft amendments to the decree, Silvio Berlusconi used his majority and a confidence vote in his government to speed it through parliament. Italian media are protesting because this law will prevent citizens to be informed about investigations and trials in progress.
Gag law denies citizens the right to be informed.

The press may not be subjected to authorisation or censorship.

I'm joining the protest against what I consider being an attack on press freedom and freedom of information.
